And another thing...

Fri Oct 30, 2009, 6:03 AM
So, I changed the settings on my dA home page so that the latest additions to the artistic nude category are displayed at the bottom of the page.
Of the five deviations displayed at any given time, it seems that more often than not three will be clothed (therefore not NUDE, people), at least one will be a close up of someone's genitals, and NONE (except on rare occasions) will actually be what I would describe as 'artistic.'

The thing I like about dA is that once you find your 'circle' of like-minded artists who create the kind of work I actually WANT to see, there really is some fantastic, inspiring work out there. It's just a shame that the moment you step outside of that circle, you are exposed to some truly mindless drivel. I wanted to expand my circle and find some new artists creating interesting work. It seems I won't be making that mistake again, I will just stay within the loop.

Pity.

Yes I agree completely. It seems that the majority of stuff uploaded as 'artistic nude' is either not nude or not artistic. Semi-clothed is not nude and a fuzzy close up of ugly genitalia is not art.

In the past I have commented on a one or two of the most flagrantly worthless pictures, only to bitterly regret stepping out of the 'circle' as you put it.

The best thing is to ignore it, but I can't help the odd twinge when I see one of my images in a favourites collection sitting alongside the porn, especially when the collection has a title like "Nice Tits" or something similar.

Couldn't agree more.

I agree, wholeheartedly. I usually do as you said, and stay within my circle of friends and like minded artists. Every once in awhile I can't help but confront or challenge some persons to explain how posting their genitalia counts as art!
Don't get me wrong, I love nude art, but the key word is 'ART.' I watch a few good nude models here in dA, who really do model for a living and personify what should qualify as nude art. They do not submit pics of gals bending over to expose the vagina, or two guys touching penises, or similar drivel. These are professional shots done by professional photographers. One is Mosh :iconmiss-mosh: and another is Vex :iconulorinvex:. Either of these models is a good example of great nude photography. It is sad, though, because these porno wanna bees are giving them a bad rap.

I also agree with you. This is one of the two reasons I have removed my work from this site. I have reported images with graphic sexual activity and have been told that the mods have looked at the work and deemed it acceptable. I'm not saying that a close up of spread genitals couldn't be artistic but it has to have merit and not look like a cheap porno shot done with a camera phone. And things like bj's, hj's etc. should simply not be allowed here. Yet they are.

But yes, there are many artists here whose work is quite spectacular and for that reason I continue to visit.

yes I've made the same comment in my journal - the quality of the Artistic Nude gallery is, by and large, quite poor IMO, with a small number of really great pieces by some talented artists.

I have also reported a couple of images that I consider nothing other than pornography and the mods have ok'ed them all.

I really don't bother browsing the AN gallery any more, and rely on enjoying the work from people already in my watch list. It's a huge pity, but unless there is some basic 'quality' moderation going on, I won't bother.

There's a meaning there, but the meaning there doesn't really mean a thing ...

oh god baby girl, we all feel your pain. just today i read a journal from an artist that was irritated with the same thing because she showed her young cousins the website and i guess she got onslaughted by close-ups of uvulas all in her face and had to explain to them why they were seeing those images. why this site chooses to show those images but a woman touching her inner thigh or one woman's head near another woman's crotch gets banned is beyond me. what's more disturbing is the losers that are now coming from mySpace because of the share tool (i just noticed it yesterday, apparently dA is now merging with lameSpace, so be used to more jerks and perverts ogling your picture and others and making their faves gallery their own porntastic personal collection) so be ready for your gallery to be raided and files downloaded because it's gonna be ugly. art theft is gonna be ridiculously rampant pretty soon and so will the disrespect.:steaming:
:iconlovittgirl:
I rarely, rarely go to the browse. I only find new folks through features or favs of those I already watch...

Please show respect for nude models in your comments.

I would partially disagree, because for me nude is a bit different definition.
The rest is 100% right, sometimes ppl forget what they are here for.

It's been two days, and I'm totally addicted to DA! Would love to leave the PC, but that would only be to join Deviant Artists Anonymous!
